About

Elizabeth Janik is a German-English translator with years of professional experience as a writer, teacher, and historian, in the United States and Germany.

She holds a Ph.D. in History and a M.A. in German and European Studies from Georgetown University. Her book, Recomposing German Music: Politics and Musical Tradition in Cold War Berlin, was published in 2005.

She started kulturplease.com in 2009, when she found herself in between careers and craving a little more Kultur in her daily life.

In 2012, she was named runner-up in the German Book Office‘s first competition for aspiring German-English translators. She established translatorplease in 2014, and she completed a Graduate Certificate in Translation at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2015.

She currently lives with her family in Norfolk, Virginia, and she travels regularly to Berlin.

Note from Elizabeth:

I aspire to keep kulturplease.com as current as possible, but sometimes life intervenes. If it looks like I haven't updated the site in a while, stay tuned!  I'll be back.
